Paul Berryman is a portrait and figurative artist whose work centres on the human face and figure. Describing himself as hooked on portraiture and life drawing, he works from life whenever he can, valuing the immediacy and challenge of drawing a sitter in the room rather than from a photograph.

His work is grounded in strong likeness, but Paul is equally driven by restraint. He looks for the most pared-back version of an image that still carries real impact, stripping a drawing down to its essentials while keeping the character of the person intact. Charcoal is central to his practice, as his Instagram handle, 117sticksofcharcoal, suggests.

Alongside his own practice, Paul is an experienced educator and facilitator. He has led more than 400 events, running his own art group, delivering demonstrations and workshops for other groups and corporate clients, and working as an Associate Artist with the learning team at Milton Keynes Gallery. He offers commissions, workshops, private tuition, pop-up classes, corporate team events, demonstrations and talks, and is DBS registered to work with people of all ages.

Paul is based in the Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge corridor and is happy to travel for the right opportunity. He is represented by Woburn Mosaic Gallery.
