Postcards To/From St Neots: A Community in 100 Small Stories
A new exhibition at St Neots Museum brings together over 100 postcard-sized artworks celebrating life in the town, created by artists, residents, and young people from across the community.
Postcards To/From St Neots, developed by local creative collective Neotists CIC, began with a simple idea: what would you send to someone to capture the spirit of St Neots?
The result is a rich and varied collection of responses, from personal memories and favourite walking spots to playful interpretations of local landmarks and everyday moments. Each postcard offers a glimpse into how people experience and connect with the town.
The exhibition was curated by local artist and creative technologist Jen Nesbitt, with additional support from Richard and Clair Slade and Irene Ruby. Together, the team transformed the museum space into a vibrant patchwork of voices and perspectives.
A particularly special element of the exhibition is the inclusion of work by young people, with contributions from Crosshall Infant School’s after-school art club, as well as Stacie Swift’s Eynesbury school creative club. Their postcards sit alongside those of established and emerging artists, reinforcing the exhibition’s inclusive, community-led ethos.
The exhibition also shares space with a photographic series of St Neots by Maciek Platek, offering a complementary perspective on the town through lens-based work. Displayed alongside the postcards, the photographs add another layer to the visual narrative, capturing moments, textures, and atmospheres that echo and expand upon the themes explored by contributors.
The exhibition arrives at an exciting time for the collective, as Neotists prepares its bid for UK Town of Culture 2028. Projects like Postcards To/From St Neots demonstrate the depth of creativity within the town and the power of grassroots initiatives to bring people together through art.
All works in the exhibition are available for purchase, with proceeds shared between St Neots Museum and the Neotists Market Stall project, supporting both local heritage and future creative opportunities in the town.
