The Most Wuthering Heights Day EVER
Anyone in St Neots last Sunday might have done a double take at the sight of fifty people dressed head to toe in red, dancing in unison in the Market Square. There was no need for concern. It is simply the town’s first Kate Bush flash mob, and everyone was invited to join in.
Organised by Lynne Otto, who runs DSM Dance with Lynne, and Clair Slade, founder of the Neotists and a familiar face in the local community scene, the event brought together dancers old and new to perform the now-iconic routine to Wuthering Heights, made famous by the song’s 1978 music video.
The idea draws on a wider movement that began with The Ultimate Kate Bush Experience at Brighton Fringe Festival in 2013, which has since grown into an annual tradition performed by groups of “Cathys” in towns and cities around the world. St Neots now joins that growing list.
No experience was needed. Lynne taught the routine to newcomers before the dance began and the only real requirement was the outfit: red, in tribute to Kate Bush’s costume in the original video.
Lynne and Clair share a passion for events that get people using and enjoying the town’s public spaces, and both are delighted with how the newly redeveloped Market Square lends itself to exactly this kind of gathering.
